Math
This year in math we will be covering many new and exciting topics! Here is a list of what we will be learning this year:
Place Value/Numeracy: up to the 100,000's place, rounding/estimating, comparing and ordering numbers
Addition/Subtraction: one and two step problems with more than one operation, up to the 1,000's place
Multiplication/Division: facts from 0-12, one and two step problems up to 100
Patterns and Tables: find the relationship in a table or patter of numbers, could be addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division, solve one and two step problems based on interpreting data
Graphing: solve one and two step problems based on interpreting data
Financial Literacy: determine the value of coins and bills, savings, borrowing, lending, human capital/labor and income, the relationship of scarcity and cost of resources
Fractions: Identify and correctly name parts of a whole, compare with like and unlike numerators, find equivalent fractions, only dominators- 2,4,6,8
Area and Perimeter: Find area and perimeter, can tell when to use one or the other, find the missing sides when given total perimeter, area of irregular shapes
2D and 3D shapes: Identify and classify based on attributes and properties
Time: Tell time to the nearest minute, elapsed time
Weight and Capacity: Determine when to use, and what tools/units are used for liquid volume (capacity), or weight.

Math Resources
MyKaty Cloud allows you to access your child's grades, online textbooks, and many other online programs and resources to help you at home.
|
The Parent Resource Drive will have digital copies of homework, newsletters, anchor charts we use in class, information about how to access online computer programs at home.
|
This is a You Tube channel created by Mrs. Orlando showing how we solve word problems in class. Parents may request problems for her to solve in an instructional video.

Progression of Math Skills
It is amazing to see the jump our kids take from the primary to intermediate grades.
See how many new concepts your child is expected to learn this year!
